What types of applications can use artificial landscape grass?

Is Act Global a USA based synthetic turf manufacturer?
Yes, Act Global is a USA based synthetic turf manufacturer. Our manufacturing facility is located in Calhoun, Georgia, as well as sales offices in Austin, Texas and Phoenix, Arizona. We also have facilities in the Netherlands and Asia to support our international markets.
How many artificial turf manufacturers exist in the USA?
There are less than ten synthetic turf manufacturers in the USA. Many synthetic turf products are distributed in the USA and marketed as American made products, but are actually made elsewhere. Ask for proof of manufacturing origin when purchasing artificial turf.
How do I choose the right artificial turf?
Artificial grass comes in many varieties, colors, heights and densities, and a reputable manufacturer or installer will help determine the best solution. A higher foot traffic area, such as a backyard, will require a denser, more durable product than an area with very little foot traffic. A playground or pet area may require a shorter pile height and less infill.
What does Face Weight indicate?
Face weight indicates how many ounce of yarn are stitched into the artificial turf backing per square yard. Most products have a total face weight of between 40 to 80 ounces per square yard. Lower face weights are for low foot traffic areas such as front yards. A higher face weight indicates a more durable, plush and high-end products. It can withstand heavy foot traffic.

Some vendors or distributors will embellish face weight statistics, such as adding the weight of the yarn and backing together, to entice buyers. Ask sellers to verify their face weight through independent third party testing or documentation to ensure you are not buying an inferior product at an inflated price.
What is Pile Height?
Pile Height is simply the length of the longest artificial turf blades. The pile height will vary depending on the region of the world, the intended use and the needs of the customer.
What is the Primary Backing?
The primary backing is a fabric material in which the yarn is tufted through in the manufacturing process. It helps provide dimensional stability for the synthetic grass system. The STC recommends a dual primary backing weight of at least 7 oz. per square yard.
What is the Secondary Backing (coating)?
The secondary backing is a coating on the back of the synthetic grass to lock the fibers in place (tuft bind). Several different coating materials are used, including Polyurethane (PU), Hot Melt Polyolefin (HMP) and Latex.

Knitted or woven turf has no secondary backing; instead the turf fibers are interlocked into a woven backing system for excellent fiber pile lock.
Do you have testing documents to verify your artificial turf product?
Yes, Act Global artificial turf products have been tested and verified by third party independent testing institutes to verify properties for tuft bind, denier, grab tear, breaking strength, dimensional stability, Lisport durability, melt point, UV stability and many more.
Can I install synthetic turf myself?
Installing synthetic grass can vary depending on the application and use. Please refer to our Installation Page for information regarding installing artificial lawns or synthetic turf.
Do I need infill for synthetic grass installations?
We recommend that silica sand be used in our landscape turf installations. The sand granules are larger and less susceptible to clumping than common masonry or playground sand. Rubber infill is not necessary.
How do I maintain my artificial turf?
Properly maintaining your synthetic turf sports field or artificial landscape is crucial to its long-term performance and enjoyment. Please refer to our Xtreme Lawn landscape maintenance guidelines and Xtreme Turf sports maintenance guidelines for further information.
How does artificial grass drain with rain, snow and ice?
The turf has a perforated backing which allows rapid drainage for rain and other liquids. Allow snow and ice to melt and drain naturally—do not try to chip or break away the ice, as this could cause damage to the fibers and artificial turf backing.
Does the synthetic turf get really hot?
The turf will warm up in direct sunlight, but the silica sand infill will remain cooler than black rubber infill. If the grass feels very warm, you may lightly mist it with a hose.
Does the synthetic turf fade in the sunlight?
Often, low-quality synthetic turf will break down or fade due to insufficient UV protection. All our synthetic turf is made with the highest quality materials and UV inhibitors to prevent the fibers from breaking down or fading in the sunlight. We have proven UV stability through extensive testing.
How does synthetic turf impact the environment?
Synthetic turf is a very sustainable solution. Studies have shown that every square foot of natural grass replaced with synthetic grass saves 55 gallons of water per year (208 liters per square meter). The estimated amount of synthetic turf currently installed has eliminated the need for nearly a billion pounds of pesticides and fertilizers. Excessive pesticide and fertilizer use can pollute storm water runoff and damage surrounding wildlife. In addition, synthetic turf helps reduce noxious lawn mower emissions and grass clippings, which compromise a large component of municipal solid waste in landfills.
