Artificial Grass Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship

At Act Global, we are committed to preserving and protecting our planet. We are at the forefront of product development on recyclable turf systems and alternative infills, delivering the world’s first pitch employing Ocean plastic.

Water Savings

  • A typical natural grass sports field requires between 500,000 and 1 million gallons of water per year
  • Every square meter of natural grass replaced with synthetic grass saves 2,200 gallons per year
  • Synthetic turf conserves up to 8 billion gallons of water annually

Eliminate Pesticides and Herbicides

Synthetic turf eliminates the need for harmful pesticides and fertilizers, a principal cause of water pollution, which can lead to algal bloom, depleted oxygen, and damage to wildlife.

Less Pollution

Artificial grass helps reduce noxious emissions from maintenance equipment and mowers. The US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) reports that a push mower emits as much pollution in one hour as 11 cars, and a riding mower emits as much as 34 cars.

Maximize Land Use

With artificial grass, much more of an area can be utilized than with natural grass. This is especially important for highly urbanized environments with limited access to recreational spaces or busy athletic departments that need to schedule various activities in one space.

No Heavy Metals

Many natural grass fields can collect heavy metals over time through common usage, pesticides, chemicals, etc. Act Global never uses toxic chemicals in the manufacturing or maintenance of our synthetic turf fields. Our products pass PAH, PFAS, VOC, and heavy metal testing.

  • Heavy metal examples: Lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, silver
  • PAHs – Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
  • VOCs – Volatile Organic Compounds
  • PFAS – Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances

Environmental Performance You Can Count On

  • Third party testing laboratories perform extensive ASTM and environmental testing
  • All test results pass state and federal regulatory environmental testing requirements
  • Deemed safe for players and local watersheds

STC Sustainability Award

The Synthetic Turf Council (STC) announced in 2020 that Act Global was the recipient of the Sustainability Award, which recognizes an STC member organization that consistently, and through innovation, utilizes sustainable materials and processes.

Recycled Ocean Plastic Infill

We have made a commitment to reducing the use of virgin plastics and finding innovative ways to recycle plastics found in our oceans and shorelines. Working with supply partners, Act Global engineered an innovative way to take salvaged ocean plastic and synthesize it into a TPE infill.

A full-size multipurpose field was co-donated by Act Global and adidas to Miami Edison High School in Miami, Florida. As the first district field in the area, it will have a lasting impact on the community. Students set foot on the field for a 7 on 7 match during Super Bowl LIV Weekend, showing off their new surface made from recycled ocean plastic.
