Field Feature Friday: PAREF Southridge School

Field Feature Friday: PAREF Southridge School

This week’s Field Feature Friday showcases this beautiful installation at PAREF Southridge School in Metro Manila. Installed by our Philippines partner, Specicon Inc., full maintenance training was provided and provisions were made for the school to help maintain their new field to the highest standard for years to come. Children who attend the school will now have the opportunity to enjoy a new sports turf field!

The turf used was Act Global’s Xtreme Turf SX50. Due to a carefully engineered subsoil drainage system facility made from a traditional dynamic stone base, the facility is able to withstand heavy monsoon rains. This especially important given the location and climate of the Phillippines. The SBR performance infill for the field was supplied by Genan AS from Denmark.

The Act Global team is proud of the work done for this installation!

Partner Spotlight: JNC Premier Pitches & Fencing and the Rathcoole Boys Football Club

It’s time for another partner spotlight! JNC Premier Pitches & Fencing recently converted the Rathcoole Boys Football Club’s existing natural grass playing pitch into a full size synthetic turf soccer pitch with Act Global’s synthetic grass turf on a shock pad system and ancillary works!

The purpose of the Rathcoole Boys Football Club is to supply soccer for the boys and girls of Rathcoole, Saggart and the surrounding areas. Field Feature Friday: International Women’s Day 2019 Edition

Field Feature Friday: International Women’s Day 2019 Edition

We sure do love our sports. Football, baseball, soccer, there’s too many to count! For many, it’s the first time we experience what it means to work as a team. It’s where we begin to understand how important it is to practice and it’s the beginning of a lifelong skill: hard work. For International Women’s Day, Act Global celebrates the incredibly strong female athletes who show the world what it means to persevere in the sports industry.

For starters, women’s sports has seen huge success within the last decade. According to the Olympics website, women have participated in every Olympic sport at the Games since 2012 and has since increased close to 50 percent between men and women participants. For every sport in the Olympics, there must be a division for both men and women. Women are surely making their mark in world wide sports!

A proud moment for Act Global in women’s sports include the 2015 Women’s World Cup. The tournament took place at the Montreal Olympic Stadium, a stadium Act Global proudly provided the turf for. Check out the highlights from the game! Women’s World Cup 2015

These women know what it means to bring out their A game! But we can’t forget the woman who lead the U.S. Women’s National Team to victory. As a response to her coaching process of the tournament, Head Coach Jill Ellis stated, “As a coach you have to have resolve and you have to commit to what you believe in. This is a seven-game tournament and it was never going to be perfect. You just have to commit to what you believe in.”

Montreal Olympic Stadium

Today is truly a day to commemorate. But the celebration shouldn’t stop because the clock hits midnight. Whether it’s International Women’s or Men’s Day, it’s important to take time to honor the influential people in our lives and to reflect the teachings they give us throughout our lifetime.

Lastly, we at Act Global would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to our female employees and the efforts they make each day to “Be More”.

March Winter Madness: How Cold Weather Effects Natural Grass Fields

March Winter Madness: How Cold Weather Effects Natural Grass Fields

March winter madness has begun! So far, this winter has been quite the chilly one with a few scattered bursts of beautiful weather! Some might say it’s even too cold to be practicing or playing any sort of sport outside. We at Act Global are here to say it’s never too cold for athletes to get their game on with our synthetic turf fields!

Here are some effects that cold weather has on natural grass fields:

Dormancy – Most grass goes dormant in winter. While it may look dead, it is still technically alive and will grow again the following spring – however, the game shouldn’t have to stop just because the grass looks dead and needs time to repair! Synthetic turf fields take away all the maintenance needs of a natural grass field and allow athletes to continue to play competitively and leisurely all year long.

Desiccation – There are times when not all grass will survive, and patches will be scattered throughout a natural grass field. This is known as desiccation which is moisture loss caused by extreme cold. Desiccation is always a possibility because snow and ice enable moisture to reach the roots. This takes even more time and maintenance to fix as grass has to be replaced. Synthetic turf kicks this possibility completely – you’ll never have to worry about desiccation!

Snow Mold Risk – Snow mold is a fungus that affects natural grass fields and lawns under snow cover. While this isn’t much of an issue in some states such as Texas, for those in the Northeast snow mold is a common problem.

Damage and Death – Damage and death is always a possibility. It is strongly recommended to not step on a natural grass field, or even lawn, when there is snow. This is because the pressure from the snow and any added weight can cause permanent damage to the grass. This is especially important if the natural grass field was already weak before the winter months started. This really takes practice time from athletes, causing any potential development to slow down.

Act Global’s turf can withstand extreme weather on both sides of the spectrum. This provides a huge advantage for community and school athletes. Games and practices will no longer have to be canceled due to natural grass maintenance and players can continue to develop their skills. It’s all about the game and player growth at Act Global!

Ball-Surface Interaction

Ball-Surface Interaction

Every sport that has ever been played was first created on a natural grass field. Today, many of these sports have gone on to be played professionally and casually on synthetic turf fields due to the environmental benefits and heightened performance and safety for the players.

To keep the integrity of the game, Act Global uses a synthetic turf system for every field produced and continues to find a perfect balance between measuring performance and safety. Depending on the sport, different performance factors are considered. By using synthetic turf, you are able to control the performance in a consistent manner through fiber type, fiber height, and infill. Refer to https://bit.ly/2UaRSh5 to find out more about infill.

The Synthetic Turf Council describes ball-surface interaction as this: “Ball-surface interaction describes the performance characteristics of the field that relate to the ways in which the ball reacts to the surface. It is important that the ball perform as close as possible to the optimal performance characteristics for the sport or sports being played on the field. Therefore, measurements of vertical ball rebound, angled ball rebound, and ball roll, are taken to compare against the published standards of the regulatory organization(s) applicable to each sport.”

Act Global continues to take in input for every potential field project along with recommendations for turf systems that will best benefit all athletes.
