Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) installed AvTurf synthetic turf for airfield logo application.
AvTurf installs the first ever logo using artificial airport turf at Abu Dhabi International, the”Best Airport in the Middle East” as named by Airports Council International.
The below is an excerpt from the full article in Airport Improvement magazine, which details the Abu Dhabi airport installation, and how AvTurf synthetic turf can be used as both a promotional revenue stream, as well as a safety enhancement.
“Etched into AvTurf along the ramp area, the 25-meter high, 75-meter wide logo essentially serves as an airside welcome mat for millions of passengers as they land at Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH). The monogramed turf was installed earlier this year to coincide with several capital initiatives launched in 2012 to meet the growing demands of the five Abu Dhabi Airports facilities.
In addition to using AvTurf to display the airport operator’s logo, AUH also uses it for more practical, everyday purposes. By installing it along the edges of Runway 13L-31R and around the edges of high-speed exits and taxiways, the airport provides visual delineation for pilots and increases soil stabilization to prevent erosion. In total, AvTurf installed 120,000 square meters of its product at AUH.”
