FIFA Goal Project at Brazil National Training Center, Granja Comary
Austin, TX, March 19, 2013
With the recent installation of a FIFA Recommended Two Star synthetic turf pitch from Act Global, the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF) has one of the top playing surfaces in the world. The FIFA Two Star mark indicates a field which is assured to meet the highest international performance and quality standards for elite level football.
Bordered by lofty mountains, and situated at an elevation of 871 meters outside Rio de Janeiro, the site of the CBF Training Center, also named Granja Comary, is picturesque. The new synthetic turf pitch was installed as part of a FIFA Goal Project, which enables member associations to fulfill developments which advance football in their countries. Act Global was selected because of their high-quality artificial turf and commitment to FIFA international performance standards.
FIFA Recommended Two Star pitches meet the most stringent requirements for top-class international sport, tailored towards the specific needs of elite football. To be awarded this mark, pitches are required to undergo two phases of rigorous laboratory and field testing conducted by FIFA-accredited institutes. Sports Labs performed field testing at the training center, for deformation, shock absorption, energy restitution, ball roll, ball rebound, traction, torsion and aesthetics. The tests were run multiple times on various surface points to ensure precise results. The field was determined to meet the top professional quality and performance standards to earn FIFA Two Star certification.
The original construction of the CBF Training Center was the first Goal Project implemented in Brazil, completed in 2005, to help elevate football education and training in this top football nation. The famous Brazilian national football team is the only national team to have played in every FIFA World Cup, and with five World Cup victories, they currently hold the title for most wins. In 2014, Brazil will also host the FIFA World Cup and Granja Comary will be the site of preparation for World Cup football players.
As part of the CBF International Programs, youth, college and professional players from around the world can access this world-class facility. CBF International offers team travel packages, coaching education, individual training, football camps, goalkeeper programs, facility tours and more.
Over the last seven years, Act Global has been awarded a total of 15 FIFA Goal Projects in Africa, Asia and South America.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUSTIN, TX
New woven synthetic turf football pitch gets FIFA two star certification. Surface provides superior playability, excellent ball roll characteristics and pile resilience.
Aalten, Netherlands (October 23, 2012)– Act Global Sports, a world leader in synthetic turf manufacturing, received a FIFA two star certification at MOSIR – Aleksandrów Łódzk stadium in Poland, featuring the company’s advanced woven turf system. This new generation of turf offers a superior playing surface for athletes.
The football pitch is home to the Municipal Sport Center team. The client opted for Act Global’s Xtreme Turf WX50 system due to its quality, durability and top performance qualities.
One of the key features of WX50 is the resiliency of the pile. The fibers do not have the pile direction of a typical tufted product and stand up straight before any infill is applied. The distinctive woven technique results in excellent tuft lock, high water permeability and very consistent ball roll. In addition, the product has no PU or SB latex coating, and therefore offers better opportunities for recycling and sustainability.
“This is an exciting achievement for Act Global, and for facilities looking for top playing surfaces. We will continue to offer the latest generation of turf to our customers, and work with trusted partners, to complete installations that meet professional performance standards,” said Zlotnicki. “We look forward to introducing our woven system to new markets in Europe and around the world.”
As the synthetic turf market advances, Act Global is committed to staying at the forefront of technology and product development. They are a FIFA Preferred Producer of Football Turf, with installations in 70 countries, and a total of 58 FIFA certified fields.

Our European Sales Manager recently attended a match between Annan Athletic and the Rangers at the Galabank Stadium, Scotland, with installation partner WH Malcoms. This link will take you to the match report. The game drew a record crowd to Galabank Stadium, and was one of the biggest and the most significant days in the Club’s history.
The Annan Club is run by volunteers from top to bottom. Their delight at having these new facilities and the bonus of having Rangers visit was plain to see. This is a perfect example of what a football club at this level should be about. Quality facilities that meet the needs of the local community and that can provide an income that is sustainable.
Act Global is proud to have been a part of this project. With our installation partner, we took on a site that was run down—the pitch was around 2m higher from one end to the other and had a hump all the way down the middle! Act Global supplied the turf, and Malcolms put in the pitch and some small concrete terraces. They did this in less than 10 weeks from the end of the old season and the start of the new.
As we carry on our business, we perhaps don’t often get an appreciation of what impact our work has on real people. For many of the people at Annan Athletic, Saturday was a day they will never forget, primarily because they were playing Rangers, but a big part of their pride was tied up in the facilities that they were able to offer. The directors made it quite clear that the pitch was an important part of that.
