Removable End Zones

Removable End Zones

The University of Sherbrooke has started renovation work of its track and field. Act Global partner, Carpell Surfaces, has been chosen to lead and install a new surface for the university’s upcoming races and major competitions, as well as provide removable synthetic grass goal areas, better known as removable end zones, for the football field located inside the track, with turf provided by Act Global! Currently, the Michel Leclerc group is completing the demolition work and the project should be completed before autumn! The future’s looking bright!

So, this begs the question: what are removable end zones and why are they so cool?

Removable end zones are easier to maintain because instead of having to paint new logos of competing teams onto existing end zone turf, new end zones can be manufactured and then swapped out. An example of a stadium doing this is the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. It can often be too difficult to remove paint already used for logos and names and replace them with other teams. This makes the overall process easier.

Act Global and Carpell Surfaces are excited for these upcoming months! We look forward to bringing the university a one of a kind track and field with awesome removable end zones, second to none!

Field Feature Friday: PAREF Southridge School

Field Feature Friday: PAREF Southridge School

This week’s Field Feature Friday showcases this beautiful installation at PAREF Southridge School in Metro Manila. Installed by our Philippines partner, Specicon Inc., full maintenance training was provided and provisions were made for the school to help maintain their new field to the highest standard for years to come. Children who attend the school will now have the opportunity to enjoy a new sports turf field!

The turf used was Act Global’s Xtreme Turf SX50. Due to a carefully engineered subsoil drainage system facility made from a traditional dynamic stone base, the facility is able to withstand heavy monsoon rains. This especially important given the location and climate of the Phillippines. The SBR performance infill for the field was supplied by Genan AS from Denmark.

The Act Global team is proud of the work done for this installation!

Xtreme Grass Hybrid Turf Enters US Market

Xtreme Grass Hybrid Turf Enters US Market

Xtreme Grass, hybrid turf, reinforced natural turf, synthetic turf, artificial turf, sports turf, sports fields, american football, soccer, baseball, footballXtreme Grass reinforces natural sports turf to promote faster, stronger growth and greater durability.

Austin, TX – The latest reinforced natural turf system has entered the US market, to offer up to 30% more playing hours compared to natural grass alone.

The system, called Xtreme Grass, will reinforce full field installations or high wear zones, such as football/soccer goal mouths or center field playing areas.  It can be used for soccer, American football, baseball, rugby, golf and other sport applications to enhance the aesthetics and durability of the natural turf.

“With Xtreme Grass, you’re reinforcing sports performance with the durability of synthetic turf. It’s an effective solution for professional turf managers to incorporate easily into a new or existing natural grass field,” said John Baize, owner of Act Global, manufacturer of Xtreme Grass. “It’s a great system to extend the playing hours or season, and it keeps your field green year round.”

Xtreme Grass can be used to reinforce high wear areas for a variety of sports.

Xtreme Grass features synthetic grass fibers attached to a strong, open weave backing. It is simple to install using typical natural pitch construction methods, and can actually improve the growth phase of the natural turf. The system creates a micro-climate that facilitates quicker germination, better root development, and thicker ground cover.

Xtreme Grass can also enhance sports performance by promoting stronger natural growth and a more uniform playing surface. When compared to unreinforced natural grass, Xtreme Grass performed better in shearing and tearing resistance tests. This means that when the players foot a field, their feet will not tear into the natural grasses as severely.

Baize said that Act Global has worked with leading agronomy research universities and testing labs to validate Xtreme Grass’ impact on natural growth, durability and sport performance.

Maintenance and repairs with Xtreme Grass are simple and effective. Typical natural grass maintenance can be carried out by a field manager on the system, including aeration, de-thatching, scarification and mowing. For repairs, Xtreme Grass can be grown off site and quickly integrated into the look and performance of the field. No additional expensive or large machinery is needed at the job site.

The system is designed to be 100% recyclable at end of life.

Act Global will be featuring Xtreme Grass at the upcoming Sports Turf Managers Association Conference January 21-22 in San Diego. For more information email xtremegrass@actglobal.com.
