Case Study

THE WOODLANDS MULTI-FIELD PROJECT

Executive Summary

Bear Branch, Alden, and Gosling Sports Parks at The Woodlands, Texas install nine Act Global Xtreme Turf fields for rugby, soccer and lacrosse (827,000 sq. ft.)

The Problem

Overcrowded athletic facilities in The Woodlands were forcing area children onto waiting lists and sports teams to juggle fields to meet the high demand. There needed to be a durable solution to meet the growing number of athletes in The Woodlands community.

The Solution

The Township considered all factors associated with the development, operation, and maintenance of a sports field, including water usage, maintenance costs, irrigation repairs, field rental income, and even the cost of painting lines. The goal with this analysis was to highlight all of the cost savings and expenses related to the project to determine the best solution.

The Woodlands has since replaced nine natural grass fields with durable, all-weather Xtreme Turf from Act Global. The switch to synthetic has provided substantial savings in water usage and maintenance costs while accomodating far more playing hours.

The fields are being consistently utilized for tournaments and community use, and now host major soccer tournaments called Rush Cups. In 2017, the fields survived Hurricane Harvey with no damage.
