Act Global and adidas made a commitment to reduce the use of virgin plastics by co-donating a full-size multipurpose field with infill made from recycled ocean plastic.

Miami Edison High School resides in a low-income neighborhood where many areas can be dangerous places for kids to live and play. They deserve better opportunities to help them persevere and grow despite the unfortunate obstacles they’re forced to overcome. Studies have proven that sports can provide thosehowever, Miami Edison’s student-athletes were unable to play any home games due to a lack of proper playing surface. Adidas and Act Global changed that by co-donating a high-quality synthetic turf field, showing these kids that people do care and are willing to invest in them much like their teachers, coaches, and parents.

“We believe that through sport we have the power to change lives, and this field is a demonstration of our taking action on that belief. More than a place for these young athletes to play, it’s a reminder of our collective responsibility to end plastic waste,” said Cameron Collins, adidas North America’s director of football.

The athletes of Miami Edison High school set foot on the surface for the first time for a 7-on-7 tournament during Super Bowl LIV weekend where thetook a pledge to avoid single-use plastic bottles.

“The inner-city Miami students are important with huge hearts and a bright future if we help them. They are no different than you or me but are in vastly different circumstances. Let’s all continue to work together to make this world a better place,” said John Baize, Act Global founder and CEO.

Every year, 8 million metric tons of plastics enter our ocean on top of the estimated 150 million metric tons that currently circulate our marine environments according to Parley for the Oceans

We engineered an innovative way to take salvaged ocean plastic and synthesize it into a TPE infill. Through this project, man-made pollution affecting oceans and coastal areas is reversed.

Our initiative to help reverse the pollution problem and invent ways to reuse plastic waste is a huge step in moving the synthetic turf industry toward greater levels of sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint.
