Tom Burlingame heads Act Global’s latest expansion into the Northwestern US.
Austin, TX- Today, Act Global announces the addition of Regional Manager Tom Burlingame to extend the company’s footprint to the Pacific Northwest and Mountain State regions.
Act Global’s expansion is part of an initiative to refocus sports fields back to the needs of players on a large scale. As the American manufacturer continues to grow, it was essential to select a representative for the area that could attend to the increasing demand for synthetic turf fields.

Burlingame boasts an impressive 10-year history within the construction industry- including several years with synthetic turf- that has equipped him with insights into building sports fields. Located on the outskirts of Toronto on the edge of Lake Ontario is a large and up-and-coming city. Mississauga is an extremely active community in a variety of sports and activities, so its necessary for the city to provide amenities that support this lifestyle.
Last year Mississauga elected to install two multi-use artificial grass fields within a local park. The high-performance synthetic turf fields are located at Iceland Park, a state of the art facility that offers many sports and recreational amenities for the area. Both fields sit within the 160-acre park with vibrant markings for any sports team to train. The fields are made entirely of professional-grade synthetic turf, the same turf seen in stadiums across the world.
Almost a year after installation, our partners captured aerial imagery of the fields that are still looking vibrant and plush. Athletes are constantly jumping, stopping, and switching direction. This repetitive impact with the ground has the potential to have multifaceted effects on an individual’s body- especially over years of training. These effects are exacerbated further by playing surfaces that are too hard, soft, or uneven. The most common injuries of athletes including fractures (18%), sprains (33%), bruises and abrasions (16%), and internal organ injuries and concussions (12%) each can be related back to fatigue- a natural result of training on irregular surfaces.
Shock absorbency can be related to the hardness of a surface and how well it is able to convert kinetic energy from an athlete to another form within the ground. If a training field does not provide proper shock absorbancy, the energy will stay within the athlete’s body and can destabilize joint and ligaments upon each impact with the ground. However, there must be a balance between a groundcover’s ability to absorb stress and shock and its resistance to vertical deformation. When a field “gives in” upon impact, a person’s natural foot stability can be thrown off. The harmony between both these critical factors is significant to the safety and performance of athletes.

It was a busy weekend on our turf, at all levels. There were both some wins and losses by our favorite teams, but it was a great weekend to watch.
The weekend kicked off with a bang when the Houston Cougars dominated the field over the Tulsa Golden Warriors. The 41-26 win came after an explosive 4th-quarter where the Cougars scored 24 points. Check out some of the highlights from the game:
Oregon Ducks Women’s soccer also fought hard Thursday night and played exceptionally. Unfortunately, #1 ranked Standford did win the match, but it was the valiant effort by the Ducks that kept the score at a low 1-0. We’re proud of how well the team controlled the field and the admirable teamwork the Ducks showed against the defending national champions.
Friday night proved to be an evening of high school heroes on our fields. Both Bishop Gorman and Austintown Fitch killed it last week with final scores at 42-7 and 49-6. The win helped Bishop Gorman hold down its #1 ranking in the state of Nevada and hopefully gave the team the confidence it needs to finish out the 2018 season strong.
On Saturday, the University of Hawaii football was nothing but strong. A 44-41 win over San Jose State not only brought the team to a 6-1 record but also meant the Paniolo trophy is back on the island. The team was more than a little excited as seen from the celebration:
Finishing off the weekend with a win was the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. Sam Darnold had two big throws to Robby Anderson that helped secure the win and the team proved to be exceptional at running the ball. The Jets defense truly commanded the field though. With the defense keeping the Denver Broncos to just 16 points for the entire game, the offense was able to play the ball and score 34 points.
Tonight the Redskins will be taking on the New Orleans Saints in the Superdome. Are you ready for it?

Burgess–Snow Field at JSU Stadium is the home base of the Jacksonville State University Gamecocks football team. The team commands an impressive winning record at home, totaling 271-100-8 since the opening of the stadium in 1947. JSU stadium has expanded significantly since its humble inception where it seated just 5,000 people to be a home for fans to rally together every game. Over many years and several renovations, the facility has increased its capacity over four-fold and updated Burgess–Snow Field to professional-quality synthetic turf.
In 2016 JSU stadium underwent one of its most notable renovations- the resurfacing of Burgess-Snow Field to Act Global’s artificial grass. Tested for safety and relied on for performance, Act Global’s synthetic turf has been used for years at the novice, amateur, and professional sports level.
