Xtreme Grass is a reinforced natural grass system that can be utilized for full field installations or high wear zones. The system features an open weave mat-backing and synthetic turf fibers that allow natural grass to grow upwards between the polyethylene fibers and roots to penetrate down through the woven backing. The synthetic and natural components become integrated into the pitch, resulting in a high-performing, natural sports surface that offers significantly more playing hours than unreinforced grass.
The installation of Xtreme Grass is simple. After the preparation of a sand or native soil base, the Xtreme Grass product is added with a growing medium and seeding. Next, brushing and top dressing of the system spur fertilization, germination, and plant establishment. The system creates a micro-climate that facilitates quicker germination and thicker ground cover than traditional grass systems alone. This acceleration of plant establishment results in stronger grass growth with more even root zone development.
Xtreme Grass’ vertical permeability from the woven backing prevents plant diseases and propagation. By enhancing the performance of natural grass, Xtreme Grass offers the advantages of a natural grass sports field to athletes while increasing resistance to tearing and shearing and extending the life of the field. Xtreme Grass provides a playing surface with low deformation to prevent injuries caused by fatigue and limits compaction to prevent unnaturally high ball bounce to improve player comfort.
In a study comparing Xtreme Grass to natural grass, each system underwent a simulation of 3 NFL games/week with the Brinkman Traffic Simulator. At the end of the study, Xtreme Grass maintained a 10% denser ground cover and better plant establishment. Xtreme Grass has also been shown to extend playing hours by 30% and allow for at least 25 hours of play per week throughout the playing season.
With no PU or Latex coating, Xtreme Grass systems are designed to be 100% recyclable at end of life.

Pauline Johnson Collegiate is a composite high school in Brantford, Ontario with departments specializing in both vocational and collegiate educational strategies. The school’s athletic department offers a variety of teams for competitive play under the Thunderbird mascot.
Kiwanis Field was a dream for the community that was six years in the making at its opening in 2016. The publicly-funded facility features many new amenities to the Brantford community, including a world-class synthetic turf field manufactured by Act Global. Kiwanis Field at Pauline Johnson Collegiate is certified, meaning that the pitch provides maximum performance in shock absorption, deformation, ball roll and rebound, and rotational resistance. This means that the student-athletes at Pauline Johnson have access to a field that is certified for world-class safety to minimize the risk of injuries.
The new facility was imagined to provide more access to health and sports opportunities for the community and to meet the requirements for Special Olympics practice and competition. The professional-quality soccer and football synthetic turf system is also used to attract more demanding competition from local Hamilton Tiger-Cats Minor Sports Program.
This installation was possible through the expert work of our partner, Carpell Surfaces. Carpell Surfaces is a leading supplier and installer of synthetic sports surfaces across Canada. Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) is one of the most trafficked airports in the United States with a yearly passenger count exceeding 21 million. The highly-utilized facility features multiple infield islands, so in 2015 HNL updated 63,000 square feet of these areas to AvTurf’s artificial grass system to expand the usage capabilities of its infrastructure.
The use of AvTurf for infield islands helps to create a sterile and static environment by reducing standing water and eliminating airfield contaminants through the filtrating sand infill system. The consistently low pile height allows for easy recognition and cleanup of potential foreign object debris (F.O.D.) and removes shelter for prey based species. The non-fading synthetic turf fibers offer supreme visibility for pilots to quickly distinguish between paved and non-paved areas.
AvTurf combats common threats in airport safety with a durable, attractive, and cost-effective synthetic turf solution that requires minimal year-round maintenance. The performance of AvTurf’s artificial grass has been proven through hundreds of quality assurance tests, each that reiterate the fact that AvTurf achieves the highest performance standards of airport ground safety in all critical areas.
Due to AvTurf’s reputation as a premier safety surface for aviation, and its ability to demonstrate such assertion, it has been successfully installed across the globe to eliminate specific hazards in some of the largest and busiest airports.
