NFL 2018: Opening Weekend on Our Turf

It’s been a long summer watching training camps and preseason games that have been just a tease of the glory of football season. This weekend it is finally coming to an end as each of the 32 professional teams return to the field, ready to fight with full force for their fans. Here are the highlights for a few of our favorite teams going into Week 1:

New Orleans Saints

The Saints are the NFL’s favorite for the first week of the season. With a fully stacked offense and powerful defense, the Saints are a top organization in the NFC. Not only are they expected to hold down their home turf this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but are favored with the largest point spread of any Week 1 game.

Minnesota Vikings

Joining the Vikings this season comes with pressure, and this pressure is almost all condensed to the team’s quarterback. After a great 2017 season that ended just short of earning a spot in the Superbowl, the Vikings went into offseason searching for the missing link that could propel them to the Vince Lombardi Trophy. They believe they found this link in quarterback Kirk Cousins who since March earlier this year has had a mindset of winning. Fans are excited to see Cousins in full game mode, hopefully leading the Vikings to a victorious season.

The Vikings are staying home for week 1 where fans will have the opportunity to fill up U.S. Back Stadium to watch Cousins’ Viking debut in person.

New York Jets

Sam Darnold is a new hope of the New York Jets after a less than perfect 2017 season. 2018 has been referred to as the season of Sam after 21-year-old old, 3rd round draft pick earned his title as starting quarterback. Darnold is also the youngest quarterback in NFL history to ever start in this position in the first week.

The team will be hitting the road for their first official game where they will face off against the Detriot Lions on Monday, September 10th.

New York Giants

The New York Giants also have an exceptional rookie to debut this season: Saquon Barkley. The former Penn State running back has already swooned fans throughout his somewhat limited preseason and this weekend will be the first step in winning their hearts.

This Sunday, September 9 the Giants will be playing the Jacksonville Jaguars at Metlife Stadium.

We are honored to have each of these teams call Act Global’s brand of turf their home field. the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, U.S. Bank Stadium, and Metlife Stadium each feature Act Global’s premier NFL synthetic turf. FIFA Quality Programme- Our Promise

The FIFA Quality Programme is a code of standards meant to grow the game of football across the world. The programme sets requirements for product specifications and ethical business practices so that players, clubs, and associations can be confident that the companies they work with are as dedicated to football as they are. FIFA has spent years working with top research teams across the world to protect players by identifying areas of improvement for safety and performance. In working with universities and sports organizations, the programme is able to use scientific insights to improve its regulations. By demanding compliance with the World Federation of Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI), FIFA can monitor each company’s adherence to corporate social responsibility on a yearly basis. WFSGI’s pledge to the FIFA Quality Programme establishes a continuous renewal of commitment to bettering the world through sound business practices.

Football is a community. The FIFA Quality Programme is expanding our world community through sport.

Act Global takes deep pride to be recognized by FIFA as a Quality Licensee. Engineering safer, more comfortable sports surfaces for athletes across the world is our top priority, and we applaud the effort by FIFA to raise the standard for synthetic turf surfaces. Act Global utilizes FIFA’s benchmarks in every step of our product manufacturing process- from development to production- to ensure that our artificial grass systems meet the highest internationally-set standards. Northern State University selected Act Global and Kansas Turf as the artificial grass manufacturer and installer for the campus’ new Athletic and Recreation Fields.

Austin, TX- 220,000 square feet of Act Global’s Xtreme Turf was installed at Northern State University in South Dakota to construct an unrivaled facility within the upper Midwest. The multi-field project was designed to enhance the student-athlete experience for both the football and soccer teams.

Xtreme Turf Successfully Installed in Mizoram, India

Mizoram is a densely forested state within the northeastern region of India.  The state is highly undisturbed in nature with most of the land encompassing hills, rivers, valleys, and lakes. The state’s lush landscape is heavily influenced by monsoons causing chronic rainfall throughout summer months and little to no rainfall in winter months. While the natural vegetation is able to cope with this variance, grass used for outdoor sports fields cannot. Maintaining a natural grass, high-level football field can be next to impossible for many cities in Mizoram.

Situated in a remote location, eight hours drive from the Mizoram state capital of Aizawl, a mountainous, football-crazy part of the country with a desire to deliver top quality football turf surfaces. Xtreme Turf D60-360 SBR was selected for its proven durability and player comfort. The high face weight was selected to cope with the high traffic and all-day, all-weather utilization of the field by the local and regional communities. We could not achieve this result without our partners, Décor India, who have had a team stationed at the site for many months in order to assure the location is remote but the result is of international standards. The Xtreme Turf pitch is a truly level playing field.

Turf Term: Grooming

One of the biggest reasons communities and municipalities are turning to synthetic turf for their sports fields is the reduction in time and cost associated with maintenance. Artificial grass fields can easily pay for themselves within a few years and extend the hours or play without necessary rest times to prevent extensive damage. While synthetic turf does stay green, upright, and even in texture year-round, certain techniques performed intermittently can help extend the life of the field for years past the industry standard estimated life.

Grooming techniques can be completed by a standard grounds crew or by the Act Global team with the help of the SMG Sportchamp. Earlier this month Act Global’s Director of Quality and Safety visited Mount Dora Christian Academy in Mount Dora, Florida to groom the field before the start of the 2018 season. The process involves lightly brushing the tips of every turf fiber to keep it straight and unmatted. After the visit, Mount Dora’s field looked pristine, like it had just been installed.
