John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is the primary airport serving the New York City area, and one of the most popular airports in the world. As the single most-frequented gateway into North America for international travelers, the airport currently serves close to 60 million passengers a year.
As one of the busiest airports, JFK hosts takeoffs and landings for some of the largest passenger airplanes- a duty that can be degrading to the infrastructure of the airport. This was especially apparent along infield islands and along runway 13R/31L. This specific runway is the third longest commercial runway in North America and hosts about half of the airport’s inbound and outbound traffic- including A-380 aircraft traffic.

In 2007, AvTurf was contracted by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to install a surface that would control erosion and FOD. With the approaching arrival of a new line of jumbo jets, AvTurf served as an alternative to constant runway closures that were previously necessary to clean up debris blown onto intersecting runways from the airport’s natural groundcover. In addition, the synthetic turf surface aids in, combating drainage problems, mitigating wildlife management, and minimizing maintenance for the selected plot of AvTurf.
Years later, AvTurf continues to be an extremely viable solution for JFK to solve the host of problems the airport faced.

Famous football stadium replaces its existing,ten-year-old Act Global artificial turf field with the world-renowned Xtreme Turf DX60 football turf system.
The original turf was installed by Act Global in 2008 as part of the FIFA GOAL Programme and has been used for national and international competition matches, including World Cup qualifiers. The stadium is currently home to the Nyasa Big Bullets, a top Malawian football club. When the decision was made to replace and upgrade the existing football turf surface, the durability and performance of the original turf, the proven track record of Xtreme Turf DX60 and the fact that Act Global has succeeded in delivering FIFA Certified fields in Malawi (FIFA Technical Centre Blantyre, FIFA Certified 2015), and in neighboring Tanzania at the Karume Memorial Stadium in Mwanza (FIFA Certified March 2017) were all key factors in the selection process
Our longstanding partnership with Afriturf should not go without serious mention, a company that has worked with Act Global to deliver 12 FIFA Certified football turf fields in Africa, sometimes in remote and challenging locations, and shares our vision to bring the absolute best materials to the African continent, creating football fields that meet the highest international standards. This type of long-term partnership adds great value to the client, having regionally stationed experts in all aspects of football turf field construction as well as having locally appointed project managers to attend to every detail of project implementation. Having a trusted longstanding local partner means our turf is handled and treated in the correct way ensuring the finished field is in top condition
Act Global, Managing Director – Chris Clapham, writes that “Our company installed the first Xtreme Turf pitch at this famous stadium 10 years ago. We are very proud to be chosen to replace the pitch with our latest turf technology, and continuing our support for football at all levels in Malawi.”
The field was completed on 28th June 2018 and will be field tested to FIFA Quality Pro standard in September 2018.
