How a Synthetic Turf Helps Protect Athletes

  • In 2012, 1,353,750 children under age 19 visited an emergency room for a sports injury.
  • 1 in 3 was injured seriously enough to miss practices or games, and some suffer life-long consequences.

iStock_000015537110MediumWith millions of athletes participating in sports every year, injury prevention must be a top priority of the industry.  At Act Global, we understand and address the needs of player safety so that athletes can have the confidence they need to excel on the field because not all surfaces are created the same.  What many parents, coaches, and athletic directors do not realize is that a field can significantly impact a player’s safety and performance.   We make it a priority to invest in research and development opportunities to create a perfectly engineered surface for each field sport.  Each of our synthetic turf systems has a specific shape, density, pile height, backing, and Gmax rating to reduce the most common injuries including:

  • Fractures 18%
  • Sprains 33%
  • Bruises & Abrasions 16%
  • Internal Organ Injuries & Concussions  (12%)

We take it upon ourselves to explore each component of our turf systems to create a durable and reliable solution to traditional artificial grass.  Due to our commitment to quality and safety, Act Global synthetic turf is designed and built to stringent performance and safety standards, per international guidelines set by FIFA, FIH, World Rugby.  We have conducted tests against the best natural grass benchmarks for football, baseball, and American football, as well as had our results verified by independent field tests and certifications.

We make this commitment to the safety of athletes because our mission to “Be More” is ingrained in every facet of our business.  We believe the best moments in sports happen on the best quality synthetic turf.  It is our promise to never stop innovating and seeking excellence.

Act Global Supports Homeless World Cup and Its Mission to Impact Our World

Leading synthetic turf manufacturer issues open statement of congratulations

21366768_10155676104784508_9013485301763464281_oAct Global participated in the 15th edition of the Homeless World Cup event in Oslo, Norway last week through its donation of three top quality artificial grass pitches. These fields hosted hundreds of players from around the world in an effort to help each of these players and numerous other players in their home countries away from homelessness.

The United Nations estimates a 100 million people are homeless worldwide. As many as 1.6 billion people lack adequate housing. The Homeless World Cup Foundation (co-founded by Mel Young) works to “Beat Homelessness through Football” through 74 different grassroots social programs. The efforts continue to raise new heights as men’s and women’s teams representing 50 countries participated in this year’s event in Oslo.

Act Global CEO John Baize remarks, “We want to thank and congratulate the Homeless World Cup players, the numerous volunteers and staff, its sponsors and the organization.  As synthetic grass suppliers, Act Global has seen poverty in its sales in 80 countries around the world.  We see how homelessness is caused by death, poverty, lack of sufficient employment, disability, trauma or many other reasons.  While extreme poverty is pervasive around the world, in my home country of the United States every year 3.5 million people including over 1 million children are homeless. These homeless people are not ‘them’ – they are ‘us’.  They are fathers, mothers, uncles, sisters, grandparents, and daughters. Homelessness is a world problem, but not one without hope for change.”

“We all know and understand how playing sports can have a tremendous impact on a person’s physical and mental health.  Through the use of synthetic turf, we can give millions of adults and children around the world the ability to spend more time building themselves up and a time away from the streets.  The Homeless World Cup Foundation is another example of this and will serve as a tool for homeless people to change their lives while opening our eyes and hearts. Act Global is so blessed to be a small part of this event by donating the playing surfaces. To the players, we are cheering for you not just for this event but in reminding all of us that you are important, you are needed and you have brilliant football skills.”

Return of the NFL: Opening Weekend on Our Turf

Pro football is finally back!  The 2017 NFL season is kicked off last night with an opener facing off the Kansas City Chiefs against the New England Patriots.  All other teams will be taking to the field starting Sunday, August 10th to Monday, August 11th.  We’re proud to have Act Global brands of synthetic turf as the playing surface of two games this weekend in the US.  Here’s a preview of each of the matches:

Bengals Stadium Baltimore Ravens @ Cincinnati Bengals, Sunday- 12:00 PM CST

This will be an interesting match, as the Bengals are looking at making a comeback after their disappointing 2016 season.  Coming off of a 6-9-1 record, the Bengals made changes that took the team from one of the oldest in the NFL (with an average age of 26.3) to one of the youngest (with an average age just over 25).  With a full force of rookies, the team will have to be committed to working together.

The Bengal’s home, Paul Brown Stadium, features a 102,614 square foot synthetic turf field that continues to be a durable surface, allowing the team to perform.

US Bank Stadium ColorNew Orleans Saints @ Minnesota Vikings, Monday- 6:10 PM CST

The Monday night match will put New Orleans Saint’s running back Adrian Peterson against his former team, the Vikings.  The game will battle New Orleans’ strong offense against Minnesota’s strong defense, leading to disagreement over who the predicted winner will be.

U.s. Bank Stadium, home of the Vikings features over 130,000 square feet of Act Global brand turf.  The stadium is also the site for the 2018 Super Bowl.
