Paramount Centre is a communal sports complex for the people living in Mississauga, Ontario. The centre spans over a sports arena and entertainment venue, community ice rinks, Mississauga SportZone, and outdoor fields. The active community is located just outside of Toronto and home to multiple sports franchises. One new team to Mississauga as of this fall is the Mississauga Metro Stars. The Major Arena Soccer League team practices and competes at Paramount Centre and is 1 of 17 teams in the league.

The premier sports and entertainment complex is going on its 20-year anniversary since its inception in 1998. The SportZone itself just celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary last fall, after modernizing the north field to feature Xtreme Turf. The FIFA 1-Star certified field offers the most safety and playability measures available for a sports field. The all-weather turf allows residents to play 7 days a week and all 4 seasons of the year while retaining the same texture and strength of a high-quality natural grass field in the springtime.

This installation was completed in 2017 by our Canadian partners, Carpell Surfaces. Carpell visited the site again this year to capture new imagery of the field, still looking fresh and new. Carpell Surfaces is a leading supplier and installer of synthetic sports surfaces across Canada. The company has an excellent reputation for top-quality installations in sports facilities at major universities, colleges and schools, as well as high-profile sporting events.

The 2018 Homeless World Cup Recap

That’s a wrap for the 2018 Homeless World Cup! Act Global participated in the 16th edition of the Homeless World Cup in Mexico City through its donation of four top quality synthetic turf fields for the tournament. These fields hosted more than 500 players from 47 different countries to come together as a team and play football. This reintroduces a sense of structure and support into their lives to impact them in a meaningful way as they transition back into normal life.

After an inspirational week-long event, the results are in for the overall winners of this year’s tournament. Mexico really took the cake this year. Mexico took the victory for the men’s/mixed homeless world cup against Chile. Mexico’s women’s team also won against Colombia for the women’s homeless world cup. This is the second year for Mexico’s women’s team to win. This was such an amazing week for all of the participants and was definitely an exciting one to watch. The results of this year’s Homeless World Cup will seed next years beginning brackets.

Act Global CEO, John Baize proudly attended the tournament with his son Jack. The Homeless World Cup website features an article on John Baize where he explains how Act Global initially got involved with the tournament and how much it means to him and Act Global. Check out the Homeless World Cup website to take a look at John’s article!

Congratulations to not only Mexico City for winning, but also to all of the participants and the organizations that come together to make this tournament happen! Act Global is honored to be a part of the HomelessWorld Cup and hopes to continue its commitment for years to come.

This Weekend On Our Turf

Saturday, November 17th

This Saturday one of our favorite teams, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will play the University of Nevada at Las Vegas. Coming out of a bye week and having lost to the University of Utah on November 3rd this will be a big game for UH to get their game back. UNLV’s last game was a victory against San Diego State, breaking a six-week losing streak. A win for UH this Saturday would give them their seventh win as well as bowl eligibility. Our team will definitely be watching and we hope to see the Rainbow Warriors kill It tomorrow.

Sunday, November 18th

This Sunday we have two big games to watch. First up is one of our favorite NFL teams, the New York Giants against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We hope to see this as an easy win for the Giants considering the fact that the Buccaneers haven’t been doing too hot. The past three weeks they have been at a steady 0-3. Seems like their defense has not been on their A-game. With that being said, the Giants defense has been doing exceptionally well. We think this game will be a good victory for the Giants and we can’t wait to watch it go down.

Another one of our favorite NFL teams, the New Orleans Saints are playing the Philadelphia Eagles. Because the Saints have been doing amazing this season we hope that this game will be another victory for them. They’ve won the past eight games, with 5 of those winning by double digits. Drew Brees has also been killing the game, to say the least. The Eagles don’t have the greatest track record this season, so we’re hoping to see the Saints take the W this Sunday.

This upcoming weekend will be an eventful one. Our team will definitely stay busy keeping up with some of our favorite teams on our turf. Will you be watching?

Turf Term: Permeability

One of the biggest factors in making the switch to synthetic turf is the reduction in time associated with maintenance. With little upkeep, the field is available for more hours of use. Because of this, it is important for the turf to have high permeability backing. Permeability can be related to a drainage system within the turf.

However permeable the turf is, is how much excess water it will allow to pass through it. This is an important part of the turf because it allows teams to get back on the field quicker after rainstorms. With natural grass, the water builds up and sits in the grass for a long time. Most players can’t play with large puddles of water scattered all over a field, so they must wait until they can fix back up the field after every major rainstorm. With permeable synthetic turf, the water drains right through and allows the field to be a safe environment after each rain storm without taking time away for maintenance.

All of Act Global’s turf has permeable backing at the base of it in order to accommodate local weather and rainfall conditions. A permeable back for the turf is not only useful for sports fields but also for homeowner lawns as well. Standing water usually turns into mud after heavy rainstorms if you have natural grass. Having a wet and muddy backyard is not ideal for appearance reasons and limits the use of a backyard for everyday activities. With synthetic turf, the need for immediate maintenance to avoid mud in one’s backyard is not necessary. Permeability is important for every type of synthetic turf.

Weekend Recap On Our Turf

This weekend was a busy one on our turf. With both wins and losses, it was an eventful two days for some of our favorite teams.

Saturday, November 10th

Unfortunately, the Houston Cougars took an L from the Temple Owls Saturday with an ending score of 49 to 59. It was a tough loss for the Cougars with a score that close. Their offense fought hard but Temple scored their final field goal in the fourth that sealed their win against the Cougars. Click the link below for more highlights! We are excited to see them play another one of our favorite teams, the Tulane Green Wave this Thursday on our turf!

This Saturday was a win for the Tulane Green Wave against the East Carolina Pirates with an ending score of 24 to 18. This was the third straight victory for Tulane, making it the first time they have had three consecutive wins in the American conference since 2013. The Pirates still put up a good fight against the Green Wave, making it an exciting game. We are so proud of Tulane and can’t wait to see their battle against the Cougars this Thursday. Our team will definitely be watching that one!

Sunday, November 11th

Act Global CEO John Baize with Turf Expert Jim Brown at the Jets vs. Bills game

This Sunday was a sad loss for one of our favorite NFL teams. The New York Jets took a hard fall to the Buffalo Bills 10 to 41. The Jets have a bye week this week and are back to play the Patriots on Sunday the 25th. We hope to see the Jets turn their game around and come back ready to dominate the Patriots. We wish them the best!

This was an interesting weekend on our turf, to say the least. We hope all of our favorite teams get the rest they need and are ready to kill it these next few weeks of Football. Check out next weekend’s recap to see results for some of the biggest games on our turf!
