Earlier this summer the Zutphen, Netherlands based soccer club AZC updated the surface of one of its main practice fields to the technological efficiency and playability of Xtreme Grass. The hybrid system was chosen due to the stabilization properties that allow the club’s 40 teams to play on the surface without losing the integrity of the natural grass.
Our team went to visit the club this week to asses the growth of the natural grass within the synthetic turf system. The installation of Xtreme Grass takes more time than a traditional synthetic turf field because after the woven-backing system is placed, seeding of the natural grass and growth must occur. AZC is currently in step 4 of the installation process. Zutphen is undergoing an abnormally hot and dry summer, so the Act Global team is following up with recommendations and assistance to ensure that the young, growing field is ready for fall training at the end of August.

Recently ground broke on a revolutionary artificial grass field hockey facility in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. The ceremony attracted many community members and teams related to the design and implementation of the new pitch, and even brought out the Sports Minister of India, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. The Sports Minister was in full regalia for the event and was caught below with Act Global’s partner Dharminder Chadha reviewing field drawings and renderings.
The entire city and state are excited for the opening of the new field hockey facility that is set to be FIH Global certified and will perform beautifully in the hot, semi-arid climate. By featuring Xtreme Turf NFH13, the new synthetic turf field will be among other top field hockey pitches in the world, allowing athletes to practice and compete on a world-class surface that is built for superior play. To ensure the field is properly installed for years of comfort and safety, our North Indian partner and certified FIH field builder Chadha Sports will command the installation for this project.

Summer is in full swing in Texas, but here at Act Global’s corporate office, we’re dreaming of the fall. Along with cooler weather, the start of September is synonymous with the start of football season. For Texans, high school, college, and pro football game days are each equally important and sacred. Every level of competition is taken seriously because we care about the growth of the game and the development of athletes. At Act Global, this mentality is evident through our artificial grass fields that aid in better gameplay for athletes of all ages.
Here in our home state, the University of Houston Cougars are getting ready to begin training for their 73rd season. With just 64 days until the team’s first game and 71 days until the team’s first game at home, the Cougars have a long 2 months to get the team competition ready and new players inducted into the team’s family. Due to NCAA regulation limiting preseason teams to just 29 practices before gameday, the Cougars are expected to open fall training camp in late July. The #HTownTakeover hosts practices at its training facility, which includes a full-sized synthetic turf field with a system that is identical to the team’s stadium surface. The Houston Cougars value quality and consistency with their sports fields which is why the Speed artificial grass system was selected by the team. As the ultimate Ground Gear for athletes, the Speed series provides a research and testing-backed sports surface that is uniform from Houston’s practice to stadium field.
The Speed-S5 turf system is the preferred by many college and professional football teams and is now manufactured by Act Global.

Orlando-Sanford International Airport (SFB) is one of the top 30 airports in the world and dominates south-eastern regional travel to and from the Orlando area. Annual traffic through SFB is increasing each year with almost 3 million passengers in 2017.
For some time, Orlando Sanford was seeing an ongoing presence of burrowing gopher tortoises, a threatened species that is protected under Florida state law. The regulation associated with both the tortoise and its burrow meant that relocation and excavation were time-consuming and expensive with the added clause of getting special permission from the state to do so. After closing 875 burrows located next to SFB’s runway which totaled close to $400,000 in costs, the airport made the decision to address the root issue in a way that would keep the tortoises from coming back.
In 2014 SFB installed AcTurf on a 3.5-acre plot around the perimeter of a runway blast pad and conducted a year-long study to analyze the effectiveness of replacing natural grass with the synthetic turf system. At the end of the testing period, the airport detected no burrowing activity. The transition to artificial grass completely mitigated possible encounters between tortoises and aircraft during take-off and landings and provided a non-lethal and cost-effective, long-term solution for SFB.

More and more schools across the globe are making the transition to synthetic turf fields because they recognize the long-term value and the benefits artificial grass poses. In an article posted recently by Channel News Asia, Journalist Lianne Chia details the push for this conversion by The Education Ministry of Singapore. Fields made with artificial grass are aiding in getting more girls involved in sports and reducing maintenance costs.
Previously, some girls chose not to join athletic teams because of the mud and dirt that were associated with their school’s traditional natural grass fields. Artificial grass sports fields eliminate this factor so that more students can pursue their interests in sports teams.
The Education Ministry has also found that synthetic turf fields are much less expensive to maintain on an annual basis. Sports fields used for primary and secondary schools are used at multiple times for multiple teams every day which can be damaging to a natural grass field’s integrity and be the cause of the increased need for upkeep. The durability of turf fields minimizes this need.
