How to Save Water This Summer

How to Save Water This Summer

As summer months draw nearer, so too do the threat of annual water shortages and droughts and water restrictions. With temperatures rising it is important to be even more cognizant of your individual water usage.

The use of artificial grass helps save an estimated 3-6 million gallons of water each year. Each square foot of natural grass replaced with synthetic turf is estimated to save 55 gallons of water each year (2,200 liters saved per square meter). By minimizing the amount of water necessary to maintain athletic fields, home lawns, and commercial/municipal spaces, synthetic turf helps maximize land and resource usage. This becomes more and more important as the global supply of healthy and affordable water continues to diminish.

Act Global is committed to the preservation and protection of the planet through encouraging smart solutions to water utilization. In addition to offering a zero-water solution for natural grass, Act Global’s artificial grass is highly UV protected so that the fibers can withstand even the hottest climates. Act Global offers an array of turf systems that are environmentally-friendly, non-toxic, and can endure many years of use and play.

International Installation: Reach British School

Reach believes that students are the best learners when they are happy, challenged, and stimulated. This breeds an environment at the school that is well rounded and offers kids a variety of academic and extracurricular activities to participate in. The ability to participate in athletic activities helps to build team spirit and enhance motor skills to ensure that every child can make the most out of the school’s program.

To encourage participation in play, Reach British School features a child-sized football field created with Act Global artificial grass. The Xtreme Turf line was selected for the school for its international recognition and trusted performance. Our UAE partner, Raymond Sport was instrumental to the installation by providing superior support prior, during, and after the completion of the project.

Act Global synthetic turf offers improved performance and protection from common injuries to both recreational players and professional athletes. The world-class turf systems manufactured by Act Global have extensive testing to assure they meet strict international standards.

Field Feature Friday: Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School

Saint Stephen’s Episcopal School is a private Pre K-12 college preparatory academy in Tampa Bay area and ranked as one of the most respected independent, college preparatory schools in the nation. Saint Stephen’s recognizes that creating an environment that fosters meaningful, well-rounded learning includes opportunities to participate and compete on athletic teams. At Saint Stephen’s more than 75% of middle school and high school students play on at least one of the 48 available sports teams.

Until 2013 Saint Stephen’s did not have an on-site athletic complex with the capability to host games. This forced players, their friends and families, and competitors to drive 5-miles to Palma Sola Park for games. It was that year that the school opened Moore Athletic Complex at Turner Fields, home to the school’s football, soccer, and lacrosse teams. Athletic director Carlos Boothby commented that the school thoroughly researched synthetic turf before selecting the blended system from Act Global. Chosen for durability, safety, and the ability to accommodate multiple types of sports teams, the Act Global Xtreme Turf surface was installed in the brand-new stadium in 2013.

As soon as the field opened players could tell a difference in the playability and performance of the Act Global artificial grass.

“You can really fly around out there,” said then-junior tailback Luc Goeders. “It’s like being on roller skates.”

Kicker Bradley Beazant added, “knowing that you’re going to have perfect footing as you approach the ball is huge.”

The Saint Stephen’s Falcon’s football team have won the 2016 and 2017 state championships. The girls’ lacrosse team has won the district championship for both 2016 and 2017 as well.

Good luck to the Falcons in the 2018-2019 season!

Event: Connecticut ASBO 2018

Connecticut Association of School Business Officials is dedicated to creating an environment where  school officials from different districts can discuss and share ideas. Each year the association hosts a vendor day to allow school representatives and companies to come together to discuss technological advancements and progress in every sector of education management.

Today our sales manager for the area will be attending the event to share ideas and experiences of how athletic surfaces can continue to be improved.  Act Global is committed to continuously researching technologies to make synthetic turf even safer and more durable so that athletes can perform at their peak.

Turf Terms: G-Max

Turf Terms: G-Max

Act Global is one of the world’s largest producers of synthetic turf and is dedicated to manufacturing the highest quality products available. This comes as a result of continuous research, development, and testing of our artificial grass technologies to ensure each system adheres to strict safety and performance standards.

One of the most fundamental tests of synthetic turf safety is g-max testing. This test measures how many Gs of force a surface absorbs and what will be returned back to a player upon impact. With the growing prevalence of concussions and other impact-related injuries such as fractures, g-max research is critical to athlete safety. Surfaces that are rated with a high g-max score increase the risk of potentially dangerous injuries because they are returning more force back to players rather than absorbing it the shock.

Act Global utilizes industry-standard testing techniques to measure the g-max of our systems and balances it with its counterpart: vertical deformation. Act Global turf provides the right balance between shock absorption (the surface absorbs lots of energy during the impact thus provides safety) and deformation (the surface does not deform too much during the impact thus provides springiness and performance).
