AvTurf Event: Florida Airports Council 2018

This Sunday kicks off the 49th annual conference and exhibition of the Florida Airports Council in sunny Orange County. The conference is a learning and networking opportunity for airports across the state to stay on the cutting edge of technology available to them. The congregation of industry leaders, interested clients, and innovative vendors help make FAC a highly successful event that benefits both the state and airline passengers. With air travel and tourism continuing to grow each year, airports are responsible for updating their infrastructure and operations to be the safest and most intuitive it can be for travelers. The 4-day event helps airport facilities better grasp the future of air travel, how passengers are responding to changes in the industry, and how to utilize this information to create a better experience for every traveler that enters a facility.

The AvTurf team is excited to be among many exceptional peers at the cutting edge of airport modernization. The director of our Avturf line will be exhibiting the artificial grass at FAC to educate airport administrators on how they can better address issues such as foreign object debris, wildlife management, and pilot visual enhancement. The AvTurf system has been trusted in airports across the world to solve each of these issues and has aided in reducing the number of flight delays and cancellations from runway and taxiway-related issues.

AvTurf Feature: Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport

As the main international airport servicing Spain and the largest airport in Europe, Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas (MAD) handled over 53 million passengers and had over 387,000 aircraft movements throughout 2017. With the high volume of people and aircrafts traveling in and out of the airport each day, it is vital that MAD operates efficiently to prevent closures and delays of runways and taxiways. These can be caused by many factors, but typical methods of outdoor operations to control for erosion, FOD, wildlife mitigation, and visual enhancement are not cost effective and require consistent maintenance that can often result in shutdowns.

In 2009 Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport elected to transform its runway and taxiways with the addition of artificial grass from AvTurf. Tested and approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), AvTurf is a trusted surfacing solution with proven technology to withstand impact from jet blasts and enhance drainage of runoff water. The synthetic turf system also remains vivid throughout the year, regardless of the weather, to vastly improve visual recognition.

AvTurf has served Madrid–Barajas to advance the airport’s safety and operational effectiveness.

Due to AvTurf’s reputation as a premier safety surface for aviation, and its ability to demonstrate such assertion, it has been successfully installed across the globe in some of the largest and busiest airports.
