Act Global Completes Goal Project at San Lazaro Leisure Park, Cavite City, Philippines

The Certified synthetic turf pitch provides an elite playing surface for the PFF National Training Centre within the Philippines.

Act Global has been awarded the Quality Pro certification for the San Lazaro Leisure complex in Cavite City, near Manila, Philippines. As the country’s first Goal project, the pitch transformed a previously unused site into a world-class field, meeting the highest international performance and quality standards for elite level football.

The certification is a culmination of efforts that began at the groundbreaking of the facility three years ago. Despite several striking engineering challenges due to topographical and geotechnical issues, our specialist engineer Mr. Bert Hammes utilized his years of experience to offer a design solution that created a stable, permeable base on this challenging site. Previously, the area had been an uncontrolled dumping site for the past ten years and lacked the required stability for sub-base construction. The addition of underground water flows and structures were truly challenging. The site is envisioned to become the training center of the national teams as well as host international competition, friendly matches, and other related events.

“We are delighted to achieve this Quality Pro certificate. Goal projects are a true challenge in terms of design, civil engineering, installation, and maintenance training, and it is a testament to our engineers and installers that the field has been so well received by the Philippines Football Federation- and most importantly the players,” comments regional manager Daniel Clapham. “It is a privilege to be a part of the Philippine initiative to accelerate the growth of the sport and supply the country with a synthetic turf field that spearheads safety, durability, and performance.”

The turf, using a Mattex fiber manufactured at Act Global’s Asian production facility, offers the Philippine Football Federation a high-performance surface with proven durability. Full maintenance training was given to the local groundskeeping staff by our dedicated installation team to ensure the players will reap the full benefits of the top quality field maintenance equipment supplied by Act Global as part of their Goal project.

According to feedback from the Philippines Football Federation, there is little doubt that this installation is the paramount football turf field in the country.

Field Feature Friday: Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy

This week Itanagar, India celebrated the opening of the opening of the city’s first synthetic turf pitch at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy.  The inaugural event gathered together Arunachal Pradesh Chief minister Pema Khandu, Sports Parliamentary Secretary Nyamar Karbak, legislator colleagues and officials from the sports department, and the Arunachal Junior (U-19) football team to the state’s capital to commemorate this stride to further advance football within the community.  After congratulating the football team for representing the state in the Junior National Football Championship earlier this year, the artificial grass field was utilized for the first time in an inaugural friendly between CM XI and the Arunachal Football Association.

The new artificial grass field stands beautifully, nestled in between the surrounding landscape’s trees and mountains. Itanagar’s humid, subtropic climate can often cause over 20 rainy days per month from April to September, making it difficult for football teams to practice outdoors.  Act Global’s Xtreme Turf is durable through all weather conditions and allows athletes to get back on the field quicker after a storm- dramatically increasing the ability to play.  The artificial grass field now stands as a prominent facet of the community after the plan for the field was approved back in 2011.

This installation would not have been possible without our exclusive partner, Decor India.  The team from Decor India expertly installed the Act Global Xtreme Turf for Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy so that athletes will have access to a field that will allow them to lay longer and harder.

Organic Infill: Did You Know?

In recent years consumers are becoming more conscious of the artificial grass infill in their sports fields and turf landscapes.  In an effort to offer the best alternatives to adverse publicity raised by environmental concerns, Act Global offers a diverse array of alternative performance infills.  Each infill is thoroughly tested to ensure the product is safe, durable, and performs according to top players’ expectations for the long term.

Did you know the following about Alternative Performance Infills?

There are many different types of alternative infill

From cork/walnut based products to coated sand, to TPE, to EPDM, Act Global offers a matrix of infills to suit a variety of climates, uses, and aesthetics.  Each system is high performance and is engineered to prevent compaction, but each system offers varying advantages related to surface temperatures, watering requirements, and appearances.

Alternative Infill is suitable for both sports and landscape

Safety is a critical factor in any area that artificial grass is selected.  This is why Act Global offers infill options that contain no PAHs, heavy metals, or carcinogens.  These infills also pass EN 71-3 toy safety standards and are CAM 17 and Prop 65 compliant, meaning that consumers can be confident in their infill choice from Act Global.

Alternative infill offers a lower surface temperature

There’s a growing library of research that suggests that organic alternative infills help keep artificial grass fields significantly cooler than their crumb rubber counterparts.  This is beneficial both to athletes practicing on synthetic turf fields, as well as homeowners wishing to enjoy their artificial grass yard during the summer months.

Alternative Infills have been growing in popularity over the past recent years for their comparable performance to traditional infill and environmental friendliness.

Field Feature Friday: JW Nixon High School

Field Feature Friday: JW Nixon High School

JW Nixon is known for its engaging teachers that genuinely care about their students and access to teams and organizations to get students engaged in multiple facets of their education.  The public high school is located in Laredo, Texas, and home to the green and gold Mustangs.

This season the Mustangs went 7-1 in their district, and 8-3 overall. This includes wins against rival teams with much larger student bodies.  Their strong competitive abilities will be helpful as the team moves to 6A status within District 29 for the Fall 2018 season.  In an article published by LMT Online, Nixon Head Coach Antonio Villalo commented on the move to 6A competition: “We’re going to be facing really well-coached teams that have lots of strong and explosive kids that are way faster than us.  That’s the world we live in. We just have to do our best to be ready for it. That’s our life for the next two years and we will make the best of it. The kids are fired up for the challenge. They are not scared at all. They are excited about the opportunity.”

Recently JW Nixon underwent vast improvements that were followed by resurfacing of the school’s football field.  In 2016 Act Global worked with regional partner Vibra Whirl to bring a professional quality synthetic turf system to the facility.  Vibra Whirl expertly installed the Act Global manufactured turf so that the Mustangs can perform at their peak, safely.  The artificial grass is composed of balancing system components to improve foot stability and foot interaction with the surface, prevent ligament stress and allow safe starts and stops, and reduce player fatigue and injury.  This is backed by over 100 laboratory tests.

Good luck to the Mustangs in the 2018 season!
