(Aalten, Netherlands) – Act Global and partner De Sallandse United have replaced a natural grass pitch at Sportpark Slangenbeek, home ground of the Dutch female soccer champion FC Twente, with a premium Xtreme Turf WX50 woven turf surface.
After only a 19-day installation, Sallandse United completed the full natural to synthetic build, including natural turf removal, base work, shock pad and synthetic turf installation, and spreading of performance infill. The durable synthetic turf pitch, which has been FIFA Quality Pro Certified, offers elite level performance and greatly increases training hours for the local teams.
The unique project is the first pitch in the Netherlands which features both Act Global’s woven turf technology and a Bonar Yarns Enka shock pad. The client chose the system for its innovation, durability and proven performance and safety qualities.
The artificial turf component, called Xtreme Turf WX, features several design characteristics which lend the best in player performance and comfort. One of the key features of the woven system is the resiliency of the pile. The durable yarns are secured into an interlocked backing, rather than tufted into rows, to give greater stability and a non-directional turf pile. This results in very consistent ball roll, improved player footing, and better interaction with the ball. The system’s premium triple-fibre blend lends natural looking, high-density coverage which truly resembles a top-quality playing surface.
The Enka-Flex H component provides a combination of shock absorption and high isolation value in one product, to provide both performance and construction advantages. Typically in the Netherlands, a subbase must be built to 50cm to ensure frost protection. Due to Enka’s high isolation properties, a 40cm base could be used, contributing to materials and labor cost savings for the client.
The pitch has passed rigorous laboratory and field testing for qualities such as tuft bind, durability, UV stability, ball behavior, traction, deformation and shock absorption to meet FIFA Quality Pro Certification. A FIFA Quality Pro pitch will offer the highest level of performance, tailored towards the specific needs of elite football and international sport.
